JOB SUMMARY: The RN Charge Nurse will perform the primary functions of a professional leader in assessing, planning, directing and evaluating patient care on the medical-surgical unit or the Emergency room department; as well as in supervising staff, and managing equipment and supplies.
ESSENTIAL TASKS/DUTIES:

- Assures that physician orders are compiled accurately and promptly.
- Makes rounds which sufficiently assess acuity, patient/family satisfaction, and staff accomplishments relative to patient needs.
- Assists nursing staff with problems and problem-solving.
- Consults with Medical Staff to coordinate plans of care.
- Responsible for nursing care delivery quality, supervision of staff, appropriate assignments of duties and management of applicable equipment and supplies.
- Serves as liaison and maintains communication with physicians, other hospital departments and patient care units to assure quality patient care.
- Oversees patient admissions, transfers & discharges.
- Identifies issues or emergencies & responds in a calm & efficient manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
- Must have and maintain a current RN license issued by the State of Texas.
- Must have adequate department training.
- Must have and maintain current required certifications.
- Must demonstrate the ability to engage in effective verbal and written communication.
- Duties require intermittent walking, sitting, standing, pulling, bending, stooping and reaching to perform tasks and be able to lift objects that may weigh as much as 50 lbs.
