JOB Title: Pharmacy Technician
JOB SUMMARY: The Pharmacy Technician will perform functions in compliance with supervisory instructions and with departmental policies and procedures designed to provide optimum pharmaceutical care.
ESSENTIAL TASKS/DUTIES:

Training for the position of Pharmacy Technician requires performing the following duties:
- Retrieves copies of physicians’ orders and enters them into the pharmacy computer system.
- Prepares medications and supplies for dispensing/transporting to nursing units and to the TCH Clinic.
- Performs daily audits and maintains control of narcotics and other stock substances.
- Assists in maintaining inventories and in procurement of drugs and supplies.
- Restocks the automated delivery system (Pyxis) four to five times daily.
- Performs audits of all medication areas for unused or expired medications and initiates disposal in compliance with hospital policy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have Driver’s License
- Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Vocational Nursing
- Must have and keep a current LVN license with Texas State Board of Nursing.
- Must have or have the ability to obtain Pharmacy Certification with National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, and Pharmacy Registration with Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
- Must have good computer skills.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience of at least one year in a medical setting is preferred.
- Duties require intermittent walking, sitting, standing, pulling, bending, stooping and reaching to perform tasks and be able to lift objects that may weigh as much as 50 lbs.
