JOB TITLE: Plant Operations Manager

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer

JOB SUMMARY: Working as the Director of Plant Operations, you are responsible for the overall management of the Environmental & Maintenance Department within a healthcare environment.  You plan, organize, and control functions and activities of all support services under the scope of the contract.

ESSENTIAL TASKS/DUTIES:

  1. Reviews and evaluates existing programs, services, policies and procedures
  2. Meets with CEO, medical, administrative, and supervisory staff, as well as community groups, agencies, contractors, architects, and engineers to plan, organize, coordinate, and/or communicate programs, services, policies and/or procedures
  3. Monitors flow and quality of work to assure timely completion of workload and adherence to facility’s standards and regulations
  4. Prepares and manages departmental budgets
  5. Manages and insures compliance with the State Health Department, and other regulatory agencies
  6. Monitors work performance and prepares and/or reviews performance evaluations for assigned personnel
  7. Orients new employees and provides on-the-job training to assigned personnel
  8. Resolves complaints and disciplines employees, as required
  9. Interviews applicants and recommends qualified individuals for hire
  10. Informs employees of salient features of facility’s personnel and employee relations programs and answers questions regarding it or refers them to appropriate sources for additional information
  11. Plans, coordinates, and monitors construction and development of physical facilities
  12. Reviews, evaluates, and recommends approval of plans for construction
  13. Advises on structural changes and additions and/or modifications to buildings
  14. Interviews independent contractors to receive and analyze bids, including blueprint analysis of proposed changes
  15. Submits bids and recommendations to administration for consideration
  16. Serves as liaison with contractors, architects, engineers, and material and equipment suppliers
  17. Negotiates with outside vendors for preferred agreements
  18. Responsible for grounds care, and in-house fire response team.

Qualifications

  1. Associates degree in engineering (or related fields) or equivalent work experience
  2. 3-5 years responsibility at a director level in areas of engineering, maintenance, and construction in a health care institution desired.
  3. Should have proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  4. Ability to meet deadlines and make sound decisions, sometimes under stress.
  5. Work whatever hours are necessary to maintain facility in a safe manner including nights and weekends.
  6. Good physical condition and ability to operate departmental equipment.
  7. Duties require intermittent walking, sitting, standing, pulling, bending, stooping and reaching to perform tasks and be able to lift objects that may weigh as much as 50 lbs.
